Guide to Theological Terms

Grace: Unmerited favor from God.

Justification: Being declared righteous by God.

Sanctification: The process of becoming more like Christ.

Incarnation: The belief that God became human in the person of Jesus Christ.

Trinity: The doctrine that God exists as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, yet is one God.

Redemption: The act of buying back or rescuing something, in Christian theology, it refers to God's redemption of humanity from sin.

Salvation: Deliverance from sin and its consequences, often understood as a gift of God's grace.

Atonement: God's act of reconciling humanity to himself through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Eschatology: The study of the end times.

Sovereignty: God's supreme authority and power over all things.

Providence: God's ongoing care and guidance of the universe and humanity.

Imago Dei: The image of God in humanity.

Original Sin: The belief that all humans are born with a sinful nature inherited from Adam and Eve.

Justification by Faith: The doctrine that humans are justified before God through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works.
